Sweetest Day is here and while everyone else is fighting for dinner reservations, you could be doing something far more satisfying. Something that stretches you, connects you, and maybe gets your heart (and a few other things) racing.
Yep, I’m talking partner yoga. It’s the practice that uses touch, trust, and can give a whole lot of tension release. This is body talk. And by the end, you might both be saying, “Nah… I’maste in bed.”
What Is Partner Yoga (and Why It’s Basically the Best Foreplay You’ll Ever Try)
Partner yoga is what happens when mindfulness meets your partnership. Quite honestly it can be any two or more people practicing but I really enjoy teaching romantic partners the benefits of a shared practice. You and your person move together breathing, balancing, laughing, maybe even blushing. Every pose becomes a way to connect in new ways: physically, emotionally, energetically. It is really pretty amazing.
It’s not about who can do the deepest stretch. It’s about the slow burn of connection, the eye contact that lingers, the shared breath that turns into a shared heartbeat.
1. Touch Is a Love Language
When you flow together, your hands, hips, and hearts all find their own balance. Touch without intention can feel flat but touch with presence? That’s electrifying. Partner yoga teaches us to communicate through fingertips and pressure points, not just words.
2. You’ll Build Trust and Maybe a Little Tension
Leaning back into your partner’s hands or finding balance in a pose that requires both of you isn’t just a stretch it’s a bit of a metaphor. You’re saying, I trust you not to let me fall. And that trust? It’s the foundation for every kind of closeness in my opinion. We sometimes feel the closest during intimate physical touch but I’ve learned that often those supportive and affirming touches and strokes even hand holding can become just as erotic and satisfying as if there was more going on in the moment.
3. The Chemistry Is Real
There’s something about breathing together that brings partners closer together. Science says shared breath builds connection but let’s be real, it’s also sexy. When your exhales match and your bodies start to move as one, the mat starts feeling a lot like foreplay. Now you don’t HAVE to keep sensual or sexual energy at the forefront…you can absolutely redirect that vibe and stay in the place of non-sexual energy but whatever you choose lean into it.
4. You’ll Laugh Which Makes It Even Hotter
Because not every pose goes smoothly. One of you will wobble. Someone will fall. And when you laugh together, it melts the pressure and opens the space for playfulness. Nothing’s sexier than joy mixed with a little sweat as your body finds relief from tightness or stress.
5. You End in Bliss (And Maybe Begin Something Else)
After the final pose, just lie there heart to heart, breath to breath…big spoon and little spoon.Let the energy settle. That post-yoga glow? That’s not just endorphins. That’s intimacy turned all the way up.
Sweetest Day Flow to Try
- Back-to-Back Breathing – Match your inhales and exhales. Feel your spines lengthen together.
- Seated Twist – Place your hands on each other’s knees and rotate gently. Eye contact optional, but recommended.
- Temple Pose – Foreheads touching, hips aligned — stay there until one of you melts.
- Double Down Dog – Playful, strong, a little wild.
- Supported Savasana – One lies back, the other cradles. Stay. Breathe. Feel everything.
This Sweetest Day, skip the predictable. Light a candle, roll out a blanket and pillows, and get it om.
Because the best kind of love? It stretches you, strengthens you, and sometimes… it makes you say,
“Nah, I’maste in bed.”
xoxo
